California High School Basketball - University nips International
December 11, 2010: San Francisco, CA 94102 Fans at Saturday's non-league challenge between the University Red Devils (San Francisco, CA) and the host International Jaguars (San Francisco, CA), saw University's basketball squad hold off International by a score of 42-40.
With the victory, University improves its record to 3-3 on the campaign. The Red Devils host Athenian (Danville, CA) to battle the Owls in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, December 15. The Owls come into the challenge with a record of 3-1. Athenian won 50-24 in their recent non-league challenge against Urban (San Francisco, CA)
Next up, the Jaguars battle the Lick-Wilmerding Tigers (San Francisco, CA) in a non-league challenge, on Saturday, December 18. International will attempt to improve on its 2-2 season record. The Tigers come into the challenge with a 3-4 record after their 39-38 non-league win over College Prep (Oakland, CA).
First Quarter
University, starting a different lineup, jumped out to an early lead and held International to just 6 points.
Second Quarter
University continued to dominate and increased its lead to 13 points. Still, International scored more points in the second quarter.
Third Quarter
International came out of the half-time locker room full of fire and vengeance and held University to only 4 points in the quarter. The momentum of the game entirely switched.
Fourth Quarter
International was on fire and scored scored 15 points to University's 10. International tied the game at 36 which seemed to raise the Red Devils out of their stupor. University then scored 6 of the last 9 points to close out the game. The second half of this game was a real barn burner. Amelia King let the game with 20 points and Justine Li poured in 14 for University as well.
