December 10, 2016: Albany, GA 31707 The Monroe Tornadoes basketball team (Albany, GA), dropped 66-57 in Saturday's non-league battle with the host Westover Patriots (Albany, GA)
The Patriots now possess a 4-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Terrell County for a non-league battle on Friday, December 16. Westover will confront a Greenwave team coming off a 66-62 league win over Webster County (Preston, GA). The Greenwave record now stands at 3-4.
The Tornadoes (5-1) will now prepare for their battle against Cedar Grove (Ellenwood, GA). The Saints come into the non-league battle with a 3-1 record.
First Quarter
Although Ulyness Williams put 18 points on the scoreboard, Monroe fell to Westover 66-57. Westover (Albany, GA) locked down their lead in the third quarter on a two-pointer.
Monroe Tornado Varsity finished strong, adding 18 points in the final quarter. However, it was not enough to close the point gap. Racking up 21 fouls in total, Monroe played a physical game.
Williams was the leader of Monroe's offense with 18 points, including six during the third period. He also contributed five rebounds, one steal and one block.
Kyler Hughes went into double digits, scoring 16 points for Monroe (8-for-12). Also contributing for Monroe were Malik Frazier (7 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal), Julius Nelson (6 points, 1 rebound), and Fred West (2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals).
Monroe finished the game with 24 rebounds (10 offensive / 14 defensive), one block and 10 steals.
