Northern fourth-inning burst enough to top Hillside , 14-4
A nine-run explosion in the fourth inning spurred Northern to a 14-4 win in five innings over Hillside at Tempe Diable on Wednesday.
AJ Bumpass put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Northern. Bumpass tripled in the fourth innings.
Russell Hernandez racked up two RBIs on two hits for Hillside . Hernandez doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.
Ben Crabtree got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He tossed two-thirds of an inning of shutout ball. The Northern pitcher struck out none, walked one and surrendered one hit.
Northern piled up the steals, swiping six bags in all. Crabtree and Jordan Fate each had one stolen base and Zack Garrison and Wilbur Harding each had two stolen bases.
Garrison, Crabtree, Johnaton Pleasant, Josh Helm, Bumpass, Jacob Bierman, and Fate each got hits for Northern. Bumpass led the team with two hits.
