North Carolina High School Basketball - Kerr-Vance Academy overwhelmed by New Garden Friends
November 21, 2011: Greensboro, NC 27410 The Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans basketball team (Henderson, NC), was overwhelmed 76-54 in Monday's non-league battle with the host New Garden Friends Bears (Greensboro, NC)
The Bears now possess a 4-0 record. They play next when they travel to Thomasville Prep for a non-league battle on Saturday, November 26. New Garden Friends will battle a Phoenix team coming off a 71-58 non-league loss to Quality Education Academy (Winston-Salem, NC). The Phoenix record now stands at 0-1.
The Spartans (0-1) will now prepare for their battle against Friendship Christian (Raleigh, NC). The come into the non-league battle with a 0-3 record. In their last battle, Friendship Christian was overwhelmed by Grace Christian (Sanford, NC), 94-44, in a non-league battle.
First Quarter
Nolan Morgenstern with 5 points and Adam Coble with 4 got New Garden going in the opening period .
G. palmer and T. Carrier each had 3 for Kerr-Vance
Second Quarter
New Garden stepped up the defensive pressure resulting in multiple Kerr-Vance turnovers as the Bears raced to a 19 point half-time lead. Matt Secor and Nolan Morgenstern went to the defensive boards denying Kerr-Vance the opportunity for follow-up shots and holding them to just 2 second quarter field goals.
Third Quarter
B. Dickerson scored 5 in the third frame as Kerr-Vance bagan to get its offense going.
Nolan Morgenstern scored nine of his game high 21 points and Adam Coble scored 10 of his 20 points as New Garden took advantage of its height inside and stretched the lead.
Fourth Quarter
B. Dickerson scored 10 of his team high 15 points in the last period for Kerr-Vance as they had their most productive frame of the evening.
New Garden got two big three pointers from Keemon Ingram and Kanayo Obi-Rapu continued to break the press and distribute the ball to his teammates as the Bears stayed comfortably ahead.
