New York High School Basketball - Attica knocked off by Avon
December 30, 2015: Avon, NY 14414 The Avon Braves basketball team scored 49 points and held the visiting Attica Blue Devils to 30 in the Braves non-league triumph on Wednesday.
The Braves now sport a 7-2 record. They put it on the line next when they host Geneseo for a Section 5 Livingston County III contest on Friday, January 8.
The Blue Devils (0-2) will now prepare for their contest against Notre Dame (Batavia, NY). The Fighting Irish enter the non-league contest with a 1-0 record.
First Quarter
Avon jumped out to a 12-0 lead as Olivia Findlay and Amy Faville each scored six points. Findlay hit a three pointer from the left wing to give the Braves an 8-0 lead at the time.
Second Quarter
It was an even ten to ten quarter as eighth grader Keni Read paced the Braves with five points, including a three pointer and Attica's Emilee Stenson had five points with a three pointer for the Blue Devils.
Third Quarter
Read again scored five points with her second three pointer of the game and Lauren Wiard added four points for the Braves as they increased their lead to twenty points during the quarter. Emily Webber went five for six from the line for Attica in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Avon maintained their lead in the fourth quarter with balanced scoring as Read, Faville and Abby VanDuser each scored four points in the quarter. Stenson and Kierra Perl scored four points apiece for the Blue Devils. Avon is now 7-2 overall and 3-0 in their division.
Wayland-Cohocton defeated Alexander in the championship game of the tournament by a score of 49-40.
