Missouri High School Basketball - Paris edged by Monroe City
December 5, 2008: Paris, MO 65275 The Paris Coyotes basketball team (Paris, MO), was nudged 47-41 in Friday's non-league battle with the visiting Monroe City Panthers (Monroe City, MO)
The Panthers now possess a 1-1 record. They play next when they host Hannibal for a non-league battle on Monday, December 8. Monroe City will battle a Pirates team coming off a 40-34 non-league loss to Holt (Wentzville, MO). The Pirates record now stands at 0-5.
The Coyotes (0-2) will now prepare for their contest against Macon (Macon, MO). The Tigers enter the non-league contest with a 2-0 record. In their last contest, Macon nudged Chillicothe (Chillicothe, MO), 60-23, in a non-league contest.
First Quarter
We started slow defensively, had several lapses allowing Monroe's shooters good looks at the basket. We settled down on both ends of the court and had a strong finish to pull within 2 at the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter
We played very well on both ends of the court in the 2nd quarter. We were able to slow down the Panthers with solid defense and we dominated the boards.
Third Quarter
Both teams struggled offensively, we had several wasted possessions. 4 minute stretch where Monroe hurt us on the boards for the first time in the game.
Fourth Quarter
Began fourth quarter slowly, Monroe jumped out to 9 point lead, we settled down and battled cutting the lead to 4 with 40 seconds left. Monroe hit free throws down the stretch and finished off the game with the win.
