Virginia High School Soccer - Covenant can't get by Eastern Mennonite
November 10, 2011: Charlottesville, VA 22902 In Thursday's non-league test, the Eastern Mennonite (Harrisonburg, VA) soccer squad held off the host Covenant Eagles (Charlottesville, VA), by a count of 2-1.
The (13-6) will now prepare for their test against Holy Cross Regional (Lynchburg, VA). The enter the non-league test with a 19-5 record.
Game Summary
The Flames jumped to an early lead on the Eagles and then added a second tally minutes into the second half. But Covenant would not go away and kept pressing and got to within one with 10 minutes remaining. The Eagles threw everything forward and the Flames struggled to clear the ball. But Issac Driver collected his 5 saves of the match during this time. The Flames will face Holy Cross in the state championship Friday at Sportsbackers Stadium in Richmond at 5:30 pm. Aaron Yoder did a fantastic job of denying their scoring threat Fekadu.
