Florida High School Baseball - Varela loses to Southridge
March 22, 2012: Miami, FL 33157 In Thursday's league game, the host Southridge Spartans baseball team scored a tight 6-2 victory over the Varela Vipers.
The Spartans (10-6) will now prepare for their game against Palmetto (Miami, FL). The Panthers go into the 8A District 16 game with a 12-6 record. In their last game, Palmetto was overwhelmed by Killian (Miami, FL), 5-0, in a league game.
The Vipers (7-7) will now prepare for their game against Coral Reef (Miami, FL). The Barracudas go into the 8A District 16 game with a 5-10 record. In their last game, Coral Reef was overwhelmed by South Dade (Homestead, FL), 10-0, in a league game.
Game Summary
The Spartans improved to 10-6 on the season with a 6-2 win over the Felix Varela Vipers. Osvaldo Garcia started and went 4 innings, giving up one run on four hits with five strike outs. Nick Gensler earned his sixth save of the season by pitching the last three innings, striking out five. Gensler came into the game with bases loaded and no outs in the fifth and did not allow a run to score. Matt Hernandez had a bases clearing triple in the second inning and JP Castaneda played stellar defense at short stop.
