Maine High School Lacrosse - Thornton Academy trounced by Scarborough
May 16, 2011: Scarborough, ME 04074 Scarborough Red Storm (Scarborough, ME) followers exited the stadium in high spirits Monday as they witnessed their lacrosse team achieve victory over the visiting Thornton Academy Trojans (Saco, ME), 7-2 in a league challenge.
The Red Storm now have a 7-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Gorham for a A West challenge on Thursday, May 19. Scarborough will face a Rams team coming off a 18-8 league win over Marshwood (South Berwick, ME). The Rams record now stands at 10-0.
In their next game, the Trojans face the Massabesic Mustangs (Waterboro, ME) in a A West challenge, on Thursday, May 19. Thornton Academy will attempt to move on its 5-4 season record. The Mustangs come into the challenge with a 3-5 record after their 9-7 league loss to Kennebunk (Kennebunk, ME).
Game Summary
The Trojans struck early, taking a 1-0 lead but Scarboro struck back scoring the next 4 goals and into the half with a 4-1 lead.
Both teams got strong efforts from their defense and the Trojans could never find the offensive rhythm, eventually falling 7-2.
Katelyn Pierson and Michelle Giroux tallied the lone goal for the Trojans. While goalie Allie McCarthy continued her stellar play with 8 saves.
The Trojans fall to 4-4 on the season with a big game on Thursday against rival Massabesic.
