Massachusetts High School Lacrosse - Cushing Academy drops to Northfield Mount Hermon
April 16, 2014: Mount Hermon, MA 01354 Northfield Mount Hermon Hoggers (Mount Hermon, MA) followers exited the stadium content Wednesday as they witnessed their lacrosse squad top the visiting Cushing Academy Penguins (Ashburnham, MA), 18-4 in a non-league battle.
The Hoggers now have a 1-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to Proctor Academy for a non-league battle on Friday, April 18. Northfield Mount Hermon will clash with a Hornets squad coming off a 11-6 league win over Vermont Academy (Saxtons River, VT). The Hornets record now stands at 3-4.
In their next game, the Penguins clash with the Vermont Academy Wildcats (Saxtons River, VT) in a non-league battle, on Saturday, April 19. Cushing Academy will attempt to move on its 0-1 season record. The Wildcats come into the battle with a 0-1 record after their 11-6 league loss to Proctor Academy (Andover, NH).
Game Summary
Having lost the first 5 games of the season, the Hoggers were desperately seeking a victory on Wednesday at home versus the Penguins of Cushing Academy. As it was just the second home game thus far, the boys were fired up to play in front a home crowd and hopefully get on the right track. The Hogger offense was on fire from the start, as NMH raced out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter, a 14-0 lead at halftime, and eventually to 17-0 before the Penguins got on the scoreboard. Down the stretch, Cushing battled hard, scoring four of the final five goals of the game. In the end, NMH got their much-needed first win of the season by the final score of 18-4.
Leading the way offensively for NMH was Paul Butler '14 (Toronto, Canada) with 4 goals. Briton Barge '14 (Larkspur, CA) added 3 goals, while four other teammates had two goals apiece. Co-captain Jordan Dow '14 (Sudbury, MA) scored once and added 5 assists, while Christian Heidelberger '14 (Westwood, MA) also had 5 assists.
