Kansas High School Basketball - Heights nudges East
February 2, 2010: Wichita, KS 67219 In Tuesday's league outing, the Heights Falcons (Wichita, KS) basketball squad edged the visiting East Aces (Wichita, KS), by a margin of 49-43.
The Falcons (11-2) will now prepare for their outing against Kapaun Mt. Carmel (Wichita, KS). The Crusaders go into the Greater Wichita City outing with a 9-5 record. In their last outing, Kapaun Mt. Carmel nipped Southeast (Wichita, KS), 74-61, in a league outing.
The Aces now own a 8-5 record. They take the field next when they host South for a Greater Wichita City outing on Friday, February 5. East will encounter a Titans squad coming off a 45-41 league loss to West (Wichita, KS). The Titans record now stands at 2-12.
First Quarter
#1 Heights started the second half of the city league race with a 1 game lead over East. The Blue Aces had to win to stay in the hunt. East came out very dedicated to slowing the tempo down on both ends of the floor. Heights played great defense and led 13-5 after the first. Dreamius Smith had 6 points and 4 rebounds.
Second Quarter
Heights struggled from the field East made 3 3 pointers to close the gap to 21-20.
Third Quarter
Heights found some life on offense with Evan Wessel scoring 8 points. Heights extended the lead to 39-30.
Fourth Quarter
East continued to play the delay game even though they were down by 9 points. Heights wins 49-43. Evan Wessel finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Perry Ellis had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Dreamius Smith scored 12 and held Easts leading scorer to 6 points.
