New York High School Baseball - Fairport loses to Sutherland
April 12, 2012: Fairport, NY 14450 The Fairport Red Raiders baseball team (Fairport, NY), was overwhelmed 7-2 in Thursday's non-league outing with the visiting Sutherland Knights (Pittsford, NY)
The Knights now hold a 5-1 record. They put it on the line next when they host Gates Chili for a non-league outing on Monday, April 16. Sutherland will confront a Spartans team coming off a 7-2 non-league loss to South (Willoughby, OH). The Spartans record now stands at 0-1.
Next, the Red Raiders confront the North Bullitt Eagles (Shepherdsville, KY) in a non-league outing, on Friday, April 13. Fairport will attempt to advance on its 2-2 season record. The Eagles go into the outing with a 6-10 record after their 8-0 non-league loss to Fordham Prep (Bronx, NY).
Game Summary
The Knights got outstanding pitching and timely hitting to beat Fairport 7-2 in Myrtle Beach. Pitcher Will Doggett threw a complete game while scattering seven hits for his first victory of 2012. Doggett only gave up 1 earned run in the win.
Fairport got on the board first with two extra base hits to go up 1-0 in the 1st. The Knights jumped out offensively in the first with three runs to go up 3-1. The highlights were a Hunter Merrill single and a John Meuchner RBI single to go along with a Grant Heyman RBI groundout and Kane Shaw scoring on a wild pitch.
The Knights scored two more in the 3rd inning when Ryan Hallowell singled in Meuchner, who walked and Heyman stole home on a 1st and 3rd play. The Red Raiders took advantage of an Sutherland error to score a run and close the gap to 5-2.
Sutherland put Fairport away in the 6th inning when Sean Menard singled, was bunted to 2nd by Doggett and scored on a Shaw single. Merrill also scored on a passed ball to make the final 7-2.
