Delaware High School Basketball - Milford thwarts St. Elizabeth
December 6, 2011: Milford, DE The Milford Buccaneers (Milford, DE) basketball felled the visiting St. Elizabeth Vikings (Wilmington, DE), 81-68 in Tuesday's non-league test.
The Buccaneers (1-0) will now prepare for their test against Sussex Tech (Georgetown, DE). The Ravens go into the Henlopen - Northern test with a 0-1 record.
The Vikings now own a 1-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to Dickinson for a non-league outing on Friday, December 9.
First Quarter
Milford Buccaneers opened the game with a junk diamond and 2 defense against Andre Patton and Timmy Massado and had balanced scoring to jump to a 19 to 14 1st quarter lead. Sophmore Zach Cooney had 5 points to keep the Vikings close.
Second Quarter
St. E's finally attacked the junk defense successfully and Sr. Chris Thorp scored 7 points to lead the Vikings back to a halftime deadlock at 19 points
Third Quarter
The Vikings jumped out to a 4 point lead in the 3rd quarter but cosly turnovers not only gave the lead back to Milford but allowed them to jump out to a 10 point 3rd quarter lead helped by a foul at the buzzer giving Milford 2 Free Throws.
Fourth Quarter
The Vikings continue a comeback with pressure defense and cut the lead to 5 on three occasiions but missed cricial foul shots in the quarter that foiled their comback. The Buccaneers won a hard fought battle on their home court. St. E's was led by the 17 points of Timmy Massado, 16 points by Matt Kisalewski, 14 points by Andre Patton and 11 points by Chris Thorp.
