The Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) basketball nipped the visiting Prairie Hawks (Cedar Rapids, IA), 44-41 in Saturday's non-league test.

The Mustangs (11-4) will now prepare for their test against Solon (Solon, IA). The Spartans go into the WAMAC - East test with a 13-1 record. In their last test, Solon got by Regina (Iowa City, IA), 55-49, in a non-league test.

The Hawks now own a 3-10 record. They take the field next when they travel to Kennedy for a Mississippi Valley - Mississippi bout on Tuesday, January 25. Prairie will encounter a Cougars squad coming off a 61-39 non-league win over Ames (Ames, IA). The Cougars record now stands at 11-2.
