California High School Softball - Village Christian gets by Torrance
May 1, 2010: Torrance, CA 90503 Spectators at Saturday's non-league match between the Village Christian Crusaders (Sun Valley, CA) and the host Torrance Tartars (Torrance, CA), witnessed Village Christian's softball squad tip Torrance by a count of 1-0.
The Crusaders now sport a 18-3 record. They play next when they host Marymount for a non-league match on Saturday, May 1. Village Christian will meet a Sailors squad coming off a 4-0 league win over Immaculate Heart (Los Angeles, CA). The Sailors record now stands at 12-5.
With the loss, Torrance moves to 14-8 on the season. The Tartars travel to El Segundo (El Segundo, CA) to meet the Eagles in a Pioneer match on Wednesday, May 5. The Eagles go into the match with a record of 9-9. El Segundo lost 2-0 in their recent non-league match against San Pedro (San Pedro, CA)
Game Summary
Rebecca Gieske scored the only run of the game in the 3rd inning of a pitchers duel. Gieske singled and stole 2nd base. the throw from the catcher hit her helmet and caromed into the outfield. Gieske was able to score on the play. Emily Seidel had 16 strikeouts and allowed only one hit to earn her 14th win of the year.
