April 25, 2012: Colusa, CA 95932 In Wednesday's league outing, the visiting Willows Honkers softball team scored a close 4-0 win over the Colusa RedHawks.
Coming up next, the Honkers battle the Pierce Bears (Arbuckle, CA) in a Sacramento Valley outing, on Friday, April 27. Willows will attempt to upgrade on its 8-11 season record. The Bears enter the outing with a 4-7 record after their 15-1 league loss to Colusa (Colusa, CA).
The RedHawks (10-6) will now prepare for their outing against Trinity (Weaverville, CA). The Wolves enter the Sacramento Valley outing with a 4-13 record. In their last outing, Trinity was routed by Mt. Shasta (Mt. Shasta, CA), 11-0, in a non-league outing.
Game Summary
The Honkers knew they had a battle on their hands with Colusa in a 0-0 game through 5 innings. In the top of the sixth Megan Hughes battled a 3-2 count fouling off about 10 pitches before collecting a walk. Hughes who leads the league in stolen bases, stoled second and third. Courtney Dicharry followed with a walk and took second and and Colusa loaded the bases with an intentional walk to the four hitter, Nichole Thayer. With the bases loaded, Maria Jaramillo, had a full swinging bunt that caught Colusa's defense off guard and plated Hughes, the throw to the plate got away from the catcher and heads up base running by Dicharry led to the Honkers second run. Thayer moved to third on the errant throw and Jaramillo took second. Samantha Brott followed with a successful suicide squeeze to plate Thayer and Jaramillo who scored when the ball went to the backstop. Brott pitched her best game of the season, a 2-hit shutout and the Honkers are now tied with Colusa in first place.
