Maine High School Volleyball - Biddeford tips Falmouth
October 6, 2010: Biddeford, ME 04005 The crowd at Wednesday's league bout between the Biddeford Tigers (Biddeford, ME) and the visiting Falmouth Yachtsmen (Falmouth, ME), saw Biddeford's volleyball squad nip Falmouth by a tally of 3-2.
With the win, Biddeford upgrades its record to 10-1 on the year. The Tigers travel to Gorham (Gorham, ME) to play the Rams in a Class A bout on Thursday, October 7. The Rams go into the bout with a record of 6-5. Gorham won 3-0 in their recent league bout against Cape Elizabeth (Cape Elizabeth, ME)
The Yachtsmen now own a 9-1 record. They play next when they host Cony for a Class A bout on Friday, October 8. Falmouth will play a Rams squad coming off a 3-1 league loss to Yarmouth (Yarmouth, ME). The Rams record now stands at 2-6.
Match Summary
The Tigers were victorious in a hard fought 5 set match against the Falmouth Clippers. To open the contest Falmouth came from behind to win the 1st set by 8 points. The next 4 sets were all close, the Tigers won sets 2 and 3 while the Clippers again came from behind to win the 4th set in overtime by 2. The final set found the Tigers starting out again with an early lead only to see the Clippers was again tie it up and send it to overtime. The Tigers finally prevailed on an ace by Keila Gigware to secure the victory. The final point was Grigware 5th ace of the match. She also added a team high 20 kills. Alyssa Drapeau had a double double for the Tigers with 27 assists and 15 kills and a team high 6 aces. Kate Sparks was the Clippers leading scorer and a force at the net for the losing side
