December 9, 2008: Santa Maria, CA 93455 The Righetti Warriors soccer team scored 3 points and limited the visiting Santa Ynez Pirates to 1 in the Warriors non-league win on Tuesday.
With the win, Righetti betters its record to 6-1 on the year. The Warriors travel to Templeton (Templeton, CA) to battle the Eagles in a non-league bout on Thursday, December 11. The Eagles go into the bout with a record of 0-6. Templeton lost 2-0 in their recent non-league bout against Atascadero (Atascadero, CA)
In their next game, the Pirates battle the Paso Robles Bearcats (Paso Robles, CA) in a non-league bout, on Thursday, December 11. Santa Ynez will attempt to better on its 0-1 season record. The Bearcats go into the bout with a 5-2 record after their 3-0 non-league win over St. Joseph (Santa Maria, CA).
First Half
Pirates came out and dominated the first half by playing the ball through the midfield on the ground. They used overlapping runs to get the ball to the Warrior end line which resulted in a shot and goal. After that, the Warriors came back and fired in two excellent goals. One by each of the forwards, Rosario Bras and Anthony Robinson. Assists in the first half both came from the defense, Miguel Hernandez and Anthony Lang were the ones giving the passes. Righetti took control of the game and played the ball successfully on the ground using quick one and two touch passes.
Second Half
The second half started out with a foul just outside the Righetti penalty area. Santa Ynez took a shot on goal and Ian Lane, Righetti goalkeeper, jumped and made his 7th save of the night. On the way back down to turf he landed wrong on his ankle and suffered an injury that required ambulance transportation to the hospital. Ian was positive and calm throughout the wait for the ambulance. His father even snapped a couple pictures while Ian posed. The rest of the second half was fairly equal in terms of possession. Servando Perez netted his 4th goal in 4 games off a pass from Azael Palacios in the last 5 minutes of the game. Final score, RHS 3-SYHS 1
