Washington High School Baseball - Garfield can't hold off Newport
April 11, 2011: Bellevue, WA 98006 The Newport Knights baseball team scored 6 runs and limited the visiting Garfield Bulldogs to 5 in the Knights league victory on Monday.
The Knights (9-3) will now prepare for their match against Ballard (Seattle, WA). The Beavers go into the 4A KingCo match with a 5-7 record. In their last match, Ballard was edged by Issaquah (Issaquah, WA), 8-3, in a league match.
The Bulldogs (3-9) will now prepare for their match against Skyline (Sammamish, WA). The Spartans go into the 4A KingCo match with a 5-7 record. In their last match, Skyline was edged by Inglemoor (Kenmore, WA), 7-5, in a league match.
Game Summary
Newport's Nate Anderson was able to kick the ball loose on a stolen base attempt in the bottom of the 6th inning allowing Billy Sahlinger to score the go ahead run from 3rd base giving the Knights a 6-5 lead, and the win over the Garfield Bulldogs. Newport's Aaron Sandefur pitched 5 innings of 3H, 6K scoreless relief to get the win. The Bulldogs had jumped out to a 5-1 lead after 2 innings on a 2RBI 2B by Spencer Scott, a 2RBI 1B by Chandler Honican and a double steal. Newport clawed back in the game in the bottom of the 5th inning keyed by a 2RBI 1B by Jared Fisher and tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th on a SF by Daniel Altchech off Bulldog LP Hayes Gorecki. Then Anderson took offfor 2nd and appeared to be out,but the ball came loose allowing the go ahead run to come in and score.
