Iowa High School Basketball - Independence holds off Waverly-Shell Rock
January 5, 2012: Waverly, IA 50677 Independence Mustangs (Independence, IA) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks (Waverly, IA), 49-47 in a non-league bout.
With the victory, Independence upgrades its record to 7-3 on the campaign. The Mustangs travel to Vinton-Shellsburg (Vinton, IA) to play the Vikings in a WAMAC - West bout on Friday, January 6. The Vikings go into the test with a record of 0-9. Vinton-Shellsburg lost 79-27 in their recent league test against Williamsburg (Williamsburg, IA)
The Go-Hawks now own a 5-4 record. They take the field next when they host Columbus for a non-league test on Saturday, January 7. Waverly-Shell Rock will clash with a Sailors squad coming off a 56-38 league loss to Williamsburg (Williamsburg, IA). The Sailors record now stands at 1-9.
