Washington High School Baseball - White River sneaks past Hazen
April 21, 2012: Renton, WA 98059 Spectators at Saturday's non-league battle between the White River Hornets (Buckley, WA) and the host Hazen Highlanders (Renton, WA), saw White River's baseball squad edge Hazen by a margin of 3-2.
Coming up next, the Hornets play the Fife Trojans (Tacoma, WA) in a 2A SPSL battle, on Tuesday, April 24. White River will attempt to better on its 13-3 season record. The Trojans enter the battle with a 13-3 record after their 11-1 league win over Washington (Tacoma, WA).
The Highlanders now sport a 9-5 record. They take the field next when they host Tyee for a 2A/3A Seamount battle on Monday, April 23. Hazen will play a Totems squad coming off a 8-6 league loss to Renton (Renton, WA). The Totems record now stands at 2-9.
Game Summary
A day after a tough loss to Franklin Pierce, the Hornets traveled to Hazen High School for a 1:30 game and stole one from the Highlanders in the 7th. Tanner Williams got the start on the mound and went 3 innings. He did not allow a hit, struck out 5, walked 3, and gave up one unearned run. Cole Johnson pitched the 4th and 5th and gave up 1 unearned run. Cole struck out 2. Hazen picked up their first hit of the game in the 5th on a bunt. Some sloppy defense gave Hazen each of their two runs. Ryan Bird pitched the 6th and 2 outs into the 7th before being relieved by Zach Rohrbach. Rohrbach came in with with runners on 1b and 2b and picked off the runner at 1b to end the game. In the top of the 7th the Hornets trailing 2-0 put together a K that reached 2b, a bunt for a FC, a K, a BB, a balk, then a bunt base hit rbi, and a GWrbi single by Bird.
