Kentucky High School Basketball - Mercy can't hold off Fayette County
December 30, 2008: Louisville, KY 40204 The Mercy Jaguars basketball team (Louisville, KY), was nudged 64-63 in Tuesday's non-league battle with the visiting Fayette County Tigers (Fayetteville, GA)
The Tigers now sport a 14-0 record. They play next when they host Sandy Creek for a 5A-AAAA battle on Tuesday, January 6.
The Jaguars (8-5) will now prepare for their outing against Assumption (Louisville, KY). The Rockets go into the non-league outing with a 4-6 record. In their last outing, Assumption nipped Eastern (Louisville, KY), 45-29, in a non-league outing.
Fourth Quarter
The Lady Tigers earned a major win Tuesday night as they won the 9th Annual St. Pius Christmas Classic against the very talented Mercy Academy Jaguars from Louisville, Kentucky. The Lady Tigers had a 12-point lead entering the 4th Quarter; however, Mercy managed to fight back behind a 21 point 4 quarter shooting clinic which included one of their players making four 3-point baskets. Then Mercy took their first lead of the game by making a 3-point basket with 11 seconds to go in the game. The Lady Tigers inbounded the ball to Tessah Holt which pushed the ball hard up the court and threw a high lob pass toward the rim to you know who for the game winner (Anma Onyeuku). The final score Fayette County 64-Mercy Academy 63. Anma Onyeuku was name to the All Tournament Team along with Tessah Holt being named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
