March 16, 2015: Donovan, IL 60931 The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons (Gibson City, IL) softball routed the host Donovan Wildcats (Donovan, IL), 10-3 in Monday's non-league bout.
The Falcons (1-0) will now prepare for their bout against Bloomington Central Catholic (Bloomington, IL). The Saints go into the non-league bout with a 0-0 record.
The Wildcats now possess a 0-1 record. They play next when they travel to Watseka for a non-league bout on Tuesday, March 17.
Game Summary
Nikki Schudlt was in and out of trouble all nigh long. She allowed
consecutive double with 1 out to the 2nd and 3rd batters of the game
and was able to get out of the inning having only allowed 1 run. She
was able to overcome a bases loaded jam in the 3rd, and stopped the
bleeding in an error filled 4th, escaping another bases loaded
situation. She bounced back in the 5th and 6th allowing only 1 run,
and kept the game manageable until Sydney Vetter hit a hard ground
ball up the middle with 2 on in the top of the seventh that rolled all
the way to the fence for an inside the park home run point the game out of reach.
Donovan threatened to push a few more runs across in the 3rd, 4th and
6th, putting runners at second and 3rd base in each inning with 1 out,
but were unable to capitalize on those scoring opportunities.
