Nebraska High School Basketball - Grand Island Central Catholic routs Lexington
February 4, 2011: Grand Island, NE 68803 In Friday's non-league outing, the Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders (Grand Island, NE) basketball squad overwhelmed the visiting Lexington Minutemen (Lexington, NE), by a count of 67-46.
The Crusaders (19-0) will now prepare for their outing against Wahoo (Wahoo, NE). The Warriors go into the non-league outing with a 13-4 record. In their last outing, Wahoo smashed Arlington (Arlington, NE), 88-36, in a league outing.
The Minutemen now hold a 4-15 record. They take the field next when they host Aurora for a B District 5 outing on Saturday, February 5. Lexington will encounter a Huskies squad coming off a 51-47 non-league loss to Waverly (Waverly, NE). The Huskies record now stands at 9-8.
First Quarter
GICC's Turner Fahey hit a three point shot at the buzzer to put the Crusaders up by six at the end of the first period.
Second Quarter
After building a 10 point lead at 24 to 14, Lexington ran off six straight to close within four points at 24 to 20, but GICC closed out the first half on a 11 to 1 run for a 35 to 21 lead at half
Third Quarter
GICC came out of the half time break on fire and built up a lead of over 20 and out scored the Minutemen 21 to 12 for a 56 to 33 lead going into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
GICC got a 21 point victory over Lexington in GICC Friday evening. Fahey led all scorers with 24 points. The Crusaders were deadly from behind the arc connecting on nine three pointers for the contest. Tyler McKeone paced Lexington with 14 hitting on seven of nine field goals.
