The Newton Tigers (Newton, MS) basketball nipped the host Scott Central Rebels (Forest, MS), 70-67 in Tuesday's league test.

The Tigers (18-5) will now prepare for their test against Union (Union, MS). The Yellowjackets go into the 2A Region 5 test with a 4-10 record.

The Rebels now own a 19-5 record. They play next when they travel to Lake for a 2A Region 5 test on Friday, February 7. Scott Central will encounter a Hornets squad coming off a 46-29 league win over Clarkdale (Meridian, MS). The Hornets record now stands at 5-13.
