MaxPreps 2018 High School Softball All-American Teams

Montana Fouts, the 2018 MaxPreps National Player of the Year, highlights the team that includes players from 17 states and representatives from all four grades.

Fouts was power in the circle and in the batter's box this season, going 37-1 with a 0.09 ERA, while striking out 481 in 232 innings. She also batted .566 with 12 home runs and 71 RBIs as tiny East Carter went 41-2 and finished fourth in Kentucky's state tournament.

Power pitchers Aspen Wesley, Megan Faraimo, Ashley Rogers, Danielle Williams, Kelly Nelson and Olivia Grey highlight a staff where each averaged more than two strikeouts per inning.



Included on the 2018 roster are national home run and RBI leader Kasey Flores, national strikeout and wins leader Leanna Johnson, and runs and hits leader Savannah Wysocki. Two dozen honorees hit 10 home runs or more.

The team also includes a record six teams that are represented by two players each — Scott County (Georgetown, Ky.), Oak Park-River Forest (Oak Park, Ill.), Eastlake (El Paso, Texas), Canyon (New Braunsfels, Texas), Marist (Chicago) and Madison (Vienna, Va.), the 2018 MaxPreps National Champions. California leads with 11 players selected and Texas placed 10.

MaxPreps will name its National Coach of the Year, Small School All-Americans and Underclass All-Americans in the coming weeks.

Team of the Year — Madison (Vienna, Va.), 28-0
The Warhawks, led by pitcher Alex Echazarreta and outfielder Emily Klingaman, have won 42 games in a row and back-to-back 6A state titles. They were 28-0 this season and proclaimed MaxPreps mythical national champions.

First team
P — Megan Faraimo, Cathedral Catholic (San Diego), Sr.
The future UCLA Bruin compiled a 26-3 record in the circle with a 0.23 ERA this past season, leading the Dons (26-4) to the CIF San Diego Section Open Division championship game. Faraimo struck out 405 batter (the second-highest, single-season total in section history). She allowed 47 hits and eight walks in 186 innings. Faraimo tossed 17 shutouts with five no-hitters, including four perfect games. She also had a .316 batting average with seven home runs and 22 RBIs. Ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2018 by FloSoftball, Faraimo was Gatorade National Player of the Year.

P — Brooke Vestal, Canyon (New Braunfels, Texas), Sr.
Vestal, who signed with Oklahoma, finished 16-2 with an 0.89 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 86 innings as the Cougars advanced to the UIL Class 6A state final before falling to Atascocita. She hit .471 with seven home runs, seven doubles and 32 RBIs.



P — Alex Echazarreta, Madison (Vienna, Va.), Sr.
Echazarreta went 24-0 with an 0.59 ERA and 237 strikeouts in 141 innings for the MaxPreps National Champion Warhawks. She allowed 57 hits and 30 walks. At the plate, the four-time first team all-conference pick had a .495 average with 11 home runs, 36 RBIs and a 1.068 slugging percentage. She has signed with Purdue.

P — Ashley Rogers, Meigs County (Decatur, Tenn.), Sr.
Signed by Tennessee, Rogers led the Tigers (34-4) to the Class AA state championship. Rogers compiled a 29-2 record with a. 0.20 ERA in the circle, along with a .463 average, eight home runs and 37 RBIs. She struck out 398 batters and allowed six walks in 174 innings. She is a two-time Tennessee Miss Softball winner.

P — Aspen Wesley, Neshoba Central (Philadelphia, Miss.), Jr.
Wesley led the Rockets to a 34-0 record and a third straight Class 5A state championship. She posted a 23-0 mark with an 0.24 ERA and 316 strikeouts in 143 innings. At the plate, she batted .421 with 10 doubles, 32 RBIs and a .610 slugging percentage. A five-time first team All-State selection, Wesley is 109-4 with 1,331 strikeouts in her high school softball career. She has committed to Mississippi State.

P — Danielle Williams, Amador Valley (Pleasanton, Calif.), Sr.
A Northwestern signee, Williams went 23-4 with an 0.55 ERA and had 389 strikeouts in 192 innings. She struck out 20 in one playoff win. She also batted .426 with seven homers and 27 RBIs. In four high school seasons, Williams batted .430 and finished 84-12 with a 0.57 ERA to go with 950 strikeouts. P — Danielle Lung, Clovis (Calif.), Sr.
Lung was 25-0 in leading Clovis to the CIF Central Section DI title. Lung, who'll attend Fresno State, had 91 career pitching wins for Clovis and pitched in three section championships in four seasons.

P — Paxton Scheurer, Mansfield (Texas), Sr.
Scheurer, a UNLV signee, was 21-1 with her lone loss coming to defending Class 6A state champion Keller in the postseason. Scheurer, who was the District 4-6A MVP and an All-State selection, had an 0.78 ERA and 267 strikeouts in 135 innings. She hit .443 with 59 RBIs in 31 games with 14 doubles, four triples and seven home runs.

P — Kelly Nelson, Norton (Mass.), Sr.
On 14 occasions, Norton struck out 15 or more batters in a game. She finished her career with three 300-plus strikeout seasons (1,331 total) in 648 innings. More importantly, she won 84 and lost nine to go with a career 0.50 ERA. As a senior, she struck out 319 in 149 innings and went 20-2 with 14 shutouts. She has signed with Holy Cross.

P — Alex Storako, Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.), Sr.
Storako, who has signed with Michigan, finished 21-2 with 279 strikeouts in 142 innings and a 0.73 ERA. She also batted .437 with five home runs and 31 RBIs.

C — Macy Simmons, Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), Jr.
A major reason Hamilton was ranked No. 1 most of the season and finished as runner-up in Arizona's large school division. Committed to Arizona State, Simmons hit 16 homers, 58 hits, 59 RBIs and had a .547 batting average. She had no fielding errors in 256 chances.

C — Abbey Jacobsen, Barrington (Ill.), Sr.
Led Barrington to 33-4 season when she batted .420 with a .688 slugging percentage. Defensively, she made 298 out of 300 plays and did not allow a passed ball while receiving 3,595 pitches. She threw out 65 percent of runners and picked off five runners at either first or second base. She had 47 hits and a team-high 39 RBIs. She has signed with Loyola.



C — Kinzie Hansen, Norco (Calif.), Jr.
Hansen, committed to Oklahoma, led the California Southern Section DI champion Cougars with a .571 batting average and 35 RBIs. She had 44 hits and hit safely in 23-of-25 games. IF — Jordyn Rudd, Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.), Sr.
Rudd, a Northwestern University signee, led the Trojans to a 30-2 season when she batted .525 and drove in 45 runs and scored 45. She had 27 extra base hits, committed just one error and fielded .969. In her four years at Center Grove, Rudd played outfield, third base, catcher and this season, shortstop.

IF — Grace Lyons, O'Connor (Phoenix), Sr.
Signed with Oklahoma, Lyons has been stellar for four varsity seasons. She hit .642 as a senior as O'Connor won 30 games. She had 26 extra base hits, drove in 34 and scored in 47 runs in less than 100 at bats.

IF — Hannah Davis, Scott County (Georgetown, Ky.), Sr.
Signed with Kentucky, Davis played a major role in Scott winning the state championship when she batted .613, with 57 hits, 53 runs and 51 RBIs in 31 games. She homered nine times and had 13 doubles. She also stole 17 bases and struck out just once in 105 at bats.

IF — Bailey Dowling, St. Joseph-Ogden (St. Joseph, Ill.), So.
Dowling had .657 average with 21 home runs and 70 RBIs in leading the Spartans (32-4) to the Class 2A state quarterfinals. She ripped 20 doubles, scored 67 runs and recorded a .728 on-base percentage and a 1.529 slugging percentage. She is an Alabama commit.

IF — Jayda Coleman, The Colony (Texas), So.
The 2017 MaxPreps Freshman of the Year, Coleman had another sensational year at the plate batting .687 with 32 extra base hits, 46 stolen bases and 62 runs as Colony won 25 times. She did not strikeout in 118 at bats. She has committed to Oklahoma.

IF — Baylee Klingler, Dickinson (Texas), Sr.
A member of the U.S. Junior National Girls Team, Klinger walked more than once per game, but still managed to account for 61 runs and bat .582. The future Texas A&M Aggie had a .716 on-base percentage, slugged 1.218 and had an OPS of just under 2.0.

IF — Kelli Godin, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), Sr.
Godin, who has signed with UCLA, batted .538 as a senior, scored 28 runs, drove in 22 led Mater Dei to California's Southern Section D1 quarterfinals. She was named the Orange County Register's softball Player of the Year.

IF — Maeve Nelson, Oak Park-River Forest (Oak Park, Ill.), Sr.
As a senior, Nelson batted .511 with 15 home runs, 52 RBIs and 52 runs scored. She has been named the Pioneer Press softball Player of the Year for 2018 and has signed with Northwestern

Cid, who has signed with Oregon., led the Bulldogs to their first Sac-Joaquin Section Division I title in 43 years. She homered nine times, drove in 41 runs and hit .564.

IF — Ashley Prange, New Palestine (Ind.), Sr.
Named Indiana's Gatorade winner, Prange led New Palestine to a 30-1 season when she batted .594 and drove in 70 runs. The Ohio State signee hit 17 homers and scored 51 times



IF — Joley Mitchell, Rose Bud (Ark.), Jr.
Mitchell, a Missouri commit, put up monster numbers in leading Rose Bud to a 31-2 season: 71 RBIs, 24 homers, 82 runs and a .659 batting average. She walked 36 times and had a .766 on-base percentage to go with a 1.658 slugging mark and an OPS of 2.425. She also stole 33 bases and committed just two errors.

OF — Emily Klingaman, Madison (Vienna, Va.), Sr.
Headed to Stanford, Klingaman was the leading hitter (.587) for MaxPreps national champion Warhawks. She scored 39 runs, stole 13 bases, homered six times and drove in 26 runs. Her on-base percentage was .652 and she slugged 1.040. She played errorless ball in the outfield.

OF — Alexis Voss, Marist (Chicago), Jr.
Voss had monster season: 70 RBIs, 76 hits, 19 homers, 16 double and a .644 batting average. She failed to get a base hit in one game and finished the season with a 30-game hit streak. The Michigan commit either scored or drove in a run in all but one game.

OF — Ciara Briggs, Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.), Jr.
Briggs, who pledged to LSU, hit .490 with 12 doubles, four triples and eight home runs. She had 30 RBIs and stole 10 bases. She was the Carew Classic MVP.

OF — Tatum Spangler, Coronado (Henderson, Nev.), Sr.
Signed with Kentucky, Spangler hit .625 with 10 home runs and 52 RBIs to finish her career with an all-time state-best 243 hits. She also picked up 13 wins with a 1.06 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 105 innings.

UTIL — Marissa Schuld, Pinnacle (Phoenix), Sr.
Schuld, signed with Arizona, led the Pioneers to a 30-6 record and the state 6A state championship. Schuld compiled an 11-1 record with a 0.74 ERA and 151 strikeouts against with six walks in 76 innings. She batted .574 with 16 home runs, 12 doubles, nine triples, 48 runs scored and 57 RBIs. She recorded a .626 on- base percentage and a 1.252 slugging percentage.



UTIL — Aliyah Pritchett, Canyon (New Braunsfels, Texas), Jr.
A Baylor pledge, Pritchett was selected as All-District 27-6A co-MVP along with teammate Brooke Vestal. She batted .494 with nine doubles, eight home runs and 46 RBI. Pritchett was 9-0 pitching with a 0.56 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 75 innings.
Second teamP — Hannah Perkins, Fort Myers (Fla.), Sr.
Perkins went 20-1 with an 0.88 ERA and struck out 216 in 126 innings as Fort Myers went 28-3 and spent most of the season ranked in Xcellent 25 national softball rankings.

P — Kendall Mangel, Chino Hills (Calif.), Fr.
The only freshman named to the At-Large All-American team, Mangel finished the year 27-3 with a 1.25 ERA and 10 shutouts. She struck out 113 batters and walked 31 in 195 innings. She made the all-tournament team at every one of Chino Hills' tournaments, including MVP honor at the Redlands Tournaments. The Maryland commit allowed five earned runs during her final 14 games of the season. Eight of her 10 shutouts came during this stretch.

P — Makinzy Herzog, Ridge Point (Missouri City, Texas), Sr.
Herzog was 26-1 with a 1.26 ERA in leading the Panthers (31-3-1) to the Class 6A regional quarterfinals. Herzog struck out 280 batters in 150 innings pitched. At the plate, she batted .569 with 14 doubles, 47 runs scored, 44 RBIs, 20 stolen bases and a .931 slugging percentage. A three-time district MVP, she signed with Florida State.

P — Sydney Supple, Oshkosh North (Oshkosh, Wis.), Jr.
The state's returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the left-handed compiled a 25-2 record with a 0.97 ERA in leading the Spartans (25-2) to the D1 sectional quarterfinals. Supple, the Northwestern commit, struck out 238 batters in 166 innings pitched. She also batted .460 with six home runs, 32 runs scored, 39 RBIs and a .828 slugging percentage.

The Notre Dame-bound Tidd recorded a 25-2 season with a 0.47 ERA in leading San Marcos to the San Diego Section large school title. She had 180 strikeouts in 133 innings and had a .453 batting average with seven homers, 14 doubles and 31 RBIs. Tidd homered twice in a section semifinal win over Bonita Vista. In four seasons at San Marcos, Tidd was 79-10 with a 1.14 ERA. She also batted .398 with 17 homers and 118 RBIs.
P — Kathryn Sandercock, Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, Va.), Sr.
Sandercock recovered from fall hip surgery to lead O'Connell to its second-straight state 3A title. She was 18-3 with a 1.17 ERA and struck out 233 in 132 innings. She also batted .543 with 43 RBIs in 25 games. She has signed with Florida State.

P — Kara Zazzaro, Southington (Conn.), Sr.
Zazzaro pitched the Blue Knights to the state large school quarterfinals before losing. The All-State choice allowed five earned runs in 127 innings (0.44 ERA), struck out 205 batters and finished 21-2. Zazzaro batted .484 with 27 RBIs. She has signed with Iona.



P — Savannah Diederich, Los Altos (Hacienda Heights, Calif.), Sr.
P — Leanna Johnson, Brantley (Ala.), Sr.
Johnson led the Bulldogs (53-4) to the Class 1A state championship when she  compiled a 48-4 record with a 0.45 ERA, along with a .374 batting average, seven home runs and 43 RBIs. She struck out a nation-best 536 batters in 265 innings. Her 48 wins was also tops in the nation. The Most Outstanding Player at the state tournament, Johnson was named Class 1A Pitcher of the Year three times. She has signed with Troy.

P — Ashley Worrell, Hagerty (Oviedo, Fla.), Sr.
Worrell led the Huskies to a championship while pitching back-to-back shutouts at the state tournament in Vero Beach. The Rollins College signee went 22-2 in the circle with a 1.12 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 157 innings. She was also led the Huskies in batting average (.379) and hits (39), and was second on the team in RBIs (28) and doubles (8).

P — Olivia Grey, Woodland (Wash.), Jr.
Grey, a California transfer, made a big immediate impact leading Woodland to the state 2A title. Grey struck out 69 hitters over four games at the Class 2A state tournament in May. She struck out 380 in 175 innings. She led Woodland to the state 2A title and in final game, a 5-1 win, she struck out 19.

P — Kennedy Sullivan, Scott County (Georgetown, Ky.), Sr.
Sullivan went 29-2 with more than 300 strikeouts, while allowing four earned runs as a senior. She was stellar in the state tournament, picking up five wins and in 34 innings while not allowing an earned run. Sullivan has signed with Western Kentucky.

C — Allysa Shipman, Valencia (Calif.), Sr.
The Tennessee recruit was walked 34 times as a senior, but Shipman hit .356 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs on her way to a second straight Valencia All-Area Player of the Year honor.

C — Matisen Onofrei, Red Mountain (Mesa, Ariz.), Sr.
Signed with Texas A&M Kingsville, Onofrei drove in 69 runs in 31 games. She homered 10 times and had 18 doubles.

C — Shea Moreno, Sheldon (Sacramento, Calif.), Sr.
In being named the Sacramento-area's top player, Moreno hit .495 with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 44 RBIs and 38 runs for the 25-5 Huskies. In 109 career games, she had 129 RBIs and 122 runs. She has signed with UCLA.

IF — Kasey Flores, Eastlake (El Paso, Texas), Sr.
Signed with UTEP, the national home run leader with 30, put up huge numbers all through high school, especially her senior season when she led the nation in RBIs with 95. She had an on-base percentage of .626, slugged 1.432. She walked 38 times.

IF — Emily Hansen, Buffalo (Minn.), Sr.
Named the state's Miss Softball Player of 2018, Hansen homered 15 times and drove in 36 as Buffalo played deep into the postseason. She has signed with Minnesota.

IF — Erin Bengston, Grant (Fox Lake, Ill.), Sr.
The Holy Cross signee wrapped up her senior season with a .510 batting average that included 49 hits, nine homers, 20 doubles and 43 RBIs. She slugged 1.041 and walked 22 times.



IF — Isabel Pacho, Ironwood Ridge (Tucson, Ariz.), Sr.
Despite being walked 39 times this season, Pacho had 62 hits and batted .653 and drove in 38 runs. The senior shortstop and Arizona commit helped lead Ironwood Ridge to the 5A title game. In 109 varsity games, she drove in 149 runs and committed just 10 errors.

IF — April Visser, Herriman (West Herriman, Utah), Sr.
While the four-year starter was a defensive standout, she finished her senior year with a .568 batting average and a 1.273 slugging percentage. She hit five triples, 17 home runs and had 22 stolen bases. She has signed with North Carolina State.

IF — Fiona Girardot, Oak Park-River Forest (Oak Park, Ill.), Jr.
Girardot batted .639 with 19 doubles and 14 homers. She drove in 57 runs and scored 57. She has pledged to Wisconsin.

IF — Maya Brady, Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.), Jr.
In leading Oaks Christian to a 28-4 season, Brady batted .519, scored 52 and drove in 31 runs. She homered and doubled 10 times each, stole 28 bases and fielding .971. She has committed to UCLA.

IF — Kennedy McCurry, Beech (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Sr.
Despite walking 41 times, the Tennessee State signee homered 21 times and drove in 67 in being named the District 9A MVP.

IF — Abby Buettner, Ryan (Denton, Texas), So.
The Maryland pledge led the Dallas area with 17 home runs and 78 RBIs while hitting .615. In two varsity seasons, Buettner has 157 RBIs. Buettner scored 57 runs, had 45 stolen bases and had a 1.333 slugging percentage this season.

OF — Lexie Blair, West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.), Sr.
Blair, who has signed with Michigan, led the Warriors in hits, runs scored, RBIs, stolen bases, batting average, triples, homers and played errorless ball.



OF — Tate Whitley, Angleton (Texas), Sr.
Signed with Ole Miss, Whitley put up monster hitting stats despite missing seven games: .644 average, 67 hits, 54 runs and 27 stolen bases.

OF — Savannah Wysocki, Eastpark (El Paso, Texas), Sr.
Signed with Lubbock Christian, Wysocki led the nation in hits (101) and runs scored (96) when she batted .678. She also had 20 doubles, 14 triples and 12 homers to produce a 1.271 slugging percentage. She struck out three times in more than 150 at bats and stole 30 bases.

UTIL — Daisy Page, East (Anchorage, Alaska), Sr.
A Mississippi Valley State signee, Page was 18-0 with a 0.67 ERA in the circle through 28 games, striking out 120 batters and just three walks through her 84 innings. Page also batted .726 with 10 home runs, 53 RBIs, 56 runs, 17 walks and a 1.384 slugging percentage.

UTIL — Hannah Koenig, Brentwood (Tenn.), Sr.
Signed with Louisiana Tech, Koenig batted .470 with 17 doubles, 43 RBIs and struck out 308 in going 29-8 with a 0.89 ERA.

UTIL — Angela Zedak, Marist (Chicago), Jr.
Recovering from an injury, the Northwestern signee did it at the plate and in the circle when she hit .505 with 18 homers, drove in 47 and slugged .957. Zedak had 14 two-out, run-scoring doubles. She was also 15-1 with a 1.59 ERA as Marist went 32-4 on the season.
