Talented rising senior will likely miss senior season with torn ACL.

Dennis Smith Jr. is one of the nation's most talented basketball prospects, but multiple reports indicate he will miss his senior season with a torn ACL.

Raul Rubiera of the Fayetteville Observer was among those to report an initial injury and Paul Biancardi of ESPN (subscription) detailed the extent Monday.

According to Biancardi, Smith will be out of action for 6-9 months.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Trinity Christian (Fayetteville, N.C.) star is regarded as the No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports and the top point guard.

During the 2014-15 season, Smith averaged over 22 points per game en route to MaxPreps Junior All-American honors.

North Carolina State is viewed as the leader in his recruitment with powerhouses like Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina on the periphery.
