California girls high school basketball stat stars ranked nationally

Littleton of Bishop's leads nation in scoring, while Arroyo Valley's Vergara dishes out national assist lead.

With the CIF state girls basketball tournament in full swing, some of the stat stars are adding to their impressive totals. MaxPreps breaks down the top five athletes in the state and where they rank nationally in three major statistical categories.

Points per game
Destiny Littleton, Sr., Bishop's (La Jolla), No. 1
A scoring machine, Littleton leads the nation with a mind-boggling 44.2 points per night and has scored 1,325 points thus far in her senior season. Bishop's, the No. 5 seed in the SoCal Open division, tangles with Harvard-Westlake on Friday. Littleton has topped 50 points 12 times this season.

Shanaijah Davison, Sr., Pioneer (Woodland), No. 7
Davison was kept under 20 just twice as she averaged 34.8 points per contest. She topped 40 seven times with a high of 55 on Jan. 20.

Shyla Latone, Jr., Bonita Vista (Chula Vista), No. 8
Latone dropped 33.4 per night. She topped 40 points nine times, including a 63-point outburst.



Deejanae Poland, Sr., Animo Robinson (Los Angeles), No. 11
Not only did Poland average 32.2 points per night, she was a master thief with 12.0 steals per game.

Anyssia Gibbs, Jr., Granite Hills (Apple Valley), No. 19
The junior Gibbs averaged 29.7 per night and topped 30 points in 14 of 22 games, including a 48-point night in early February.

Rebounds per game
Morgan Allums, Sr., Cornerstone Christian (Wildomar), No. 2
Allums owned the glass with a 23.2 rebound average, while putting up 19,9 points per night as well. She tallied double-digit rebounds in each game this season.

Lilly Garcia, Fr., Crossroads Christian (Corona), No. 7
Garcia, a freshman, pulled down 20-plus boards nine times en route to a 19.9 rebound average.

Tyler Frierson, Sr., Millikan (Long Beach), No. 11
Frierson notched a double-double in all but one of her 27 games this season, averaging 19.0 rebounds and 22.8 points per night.

Devrie Mostrong, Sr., Foothills Christian (El Cajon), No. 14
Mostrong averaged 18.6 boards per night, including a game where she grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and 14 on the defensive glass.

Marlene Puni, Jr., Marshall (San Francisco), No. 31
Puni pulled down double-digit rebounds in all but one game while tallying a 15.6 rebound average.



Assists per game
Hailey Vergara, So., Arroyo Valley (San Bernardino), No. 1
Vergara finished off her sophomore campaign leading the nation in assists with 10.3 per night. Thirteen times, Vergara dished out double-digit assists while adding 17.3 points per night for the Hawks.

Laila Smith, Jr., Mount Miguel (Spring Valley), No. 8
Smith averaged 8.5 assists per night, including a high of 17 against Helix on Jan. 24.

Caitlyn Sauceda, Jr., Cajon (San Bernardino), No. 9
Sauceda nearly averaged a double-double, dishing out 8.4 dimes per night to go along with 10.3 points.

Nay Nay Watkins, Jr., Arroyo Valley (San Bernardino), No. 11
Watkins averaged 8.2 assists per night, but her across-the-board stats really stand out. The junior averaged 27.6 points, 8.2 boards and 10.2 steals to go along with the assists.

Daphne Smith, Sr., Swett (Crockett), No. 20
Distributing the ball came easy for Smith, who dished up 7.4 assist per game.
