Video: Najee Harris (Alabama Commit) - Top 5 Plays

While De La Salle (Concord), Centennial (Corona) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower) may have been the top three teams in the state in 2015, the state's top large schools player comes from a team that didn't even reach a section championship game.

Antioch's Najee Harris is the MaxPreps California Large Schools Player of the Year after leading his team to an 11-1 record - the school's best record this century. In fact, since Harris has been on the varsity squad, Antioch has averaged nine wins a season. In the 10 years prior, Antioch averaged only three wins a year.

Harris was chosen as the player of the year in the Bay Area by the Contra Costa Times, the San Francisco Chronicle and Prep2Prep. The Alabama commit, who is ranked as the No. 2 player in the nation in the Class of 2017, rushed for 2,744 yards and 39 total touchdowns with season highs of 396 yards against Central Coast Section Division I runner-up Milpitas and 390 yards against North Coast Section Division I runner-up Foothill (Pleasanton).

Justin Alumbaugh of De La Salle is the Large Schools Coach of the Year. After losing its first game of the season to Trinity (Euless, Texas), De La Salle was planted firmly in the No. 3 spot in the state rankings for most of the season behind Southern California powerhouses Centennial and St. John Bosco. After Centennial knocked off St. John  Bosco in the Pac-5 Division championship game in the Southern Section, De La Salle proceeded to do the same to the Huskies, limiting the offensive juggernaut to just 21 points in a 28-21 win in the CIF Open Division Bowl Game.

Along the way, De La Salle also knocked off perennial Pac-5 contenders Servite, Orange Lutheran and Long Beach Poly and also topped CIF Division II-AA state champion Del Oro. The championship was the second in a row for Alumbaugh, who also defeated Centennial in last year's Open Division game.

The Large Schools All-State Team is made up of 30 members on the first team and 30 on the second team. The players are chosen from the largest state section enrollment divisions, including the following: North Coast Section 1; Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 and 2; Central Coast Section Open Division 1; Central Section Division 1; Los Angeles City Section Division I; San Diego Section Open Division and Division 1 and Southern Section Pac-5 Division and West Valley Division.
