Top 20 most dominant Tennessee high school football teams in the MaxPreps era

After compiling data since 2004, we have come up with the 20 best high school football programs in Tennessee.

It has been 10 years now that MaxPreps has put out football computer rankings, presented by the Army National Guard.

That's plenty of time to come up with a solid list of which programs have been the most dominant during the MaxPreps era.

For the purpose of the rankings, each team will be awarded points based off where it finished in the computer rankings after each season. For example, if a team finished No. 1 overall it receives 25 points. If the team finished No. 25 overall, it would get one point. A team also receives 30 points for winning a state title and 15 for being the runner-up.

Most dominant Tennessee football programs in the MaxPreps era

1. Maryville - 487 points
Overall record:
145-5
The Rebels' seven state championships and four No. 1 finishes have cemented them as the state's most dominant team.

2. Alcoa - 413
Overall record:
132-14
Alcoa has racked up eight state titles along with nine Top 25 finishes.

3. Memphis University - 306
Overall record:
95-27
The Owls lay claim to four state championship victories and five Top 5 finishes.

4. Ensworth (Nashville) - 264
Overall record:
83-13
Ensworth has won four state championships, grabbing the No. 1 rank in two of those seasons.

5. Brentwood Academy - 260
Overall record:
89-35
The Eagles have notched 10 Top 25 finishes, one state title and three runner-up finishes since 2004.



6. Webb (Knoxville) - 230
Overall record:
91-30
An undefeated season in 2010 helped the Spartans capture one of their five state titles.

7. Fulton (Knoxville) - 221
Overall record:
103-32
Fulton has four state titles and five Top 25 finishes on its record.

8. Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville) - 201
Overall record:
87-34
The Big Red lay claim to one state title, one runner-up finish and nine Top 25 finishes.

9. Smyrna - 175
Overall record:
81-44
Smyrna has finished in the Top 25 seven times, capturing two state titles in the process.

10. Riverdale (Murfreesboro) - 165
Overall record:
100-27
A perfect season in 2004 gave the Warriors a state championship and No. 1 ranking.

11. Trousdale County (Hartsville) - 134
Overall record:
108-20
Despite cracking the Top 25 only twice, the Yellowjackets have won four state titles since 2004.



12. Greeneville - 123
Overall record:
97-34
Greeneville has captured two state championships and finished with the No. 8 rank twice.

13. Whitehaven (Memphis) - 113
Overall record:
96-27
The Tigers' undefeated season in 2012 landed them a No. 2 ranking and state championship victory.

14. Oakland (Murfreesboro) - 111
Overall record:
67-47
Oakland has finished in the Top 10 four times, claiming a state title along the way.

15. Henry County (Paris) - 108
Overall record:
101-29
The Patriots have won two state titles, both coming by way of a perfect season.

16. South Pittsburg - 105
Overall record:
104-25
The Pirates lay claim to two state championship victories and three runner-up finishes.

16. St. George's (Collierville) - 105
Overall record:
83-28
A perfect season in 2007 helped the Gryphons capture one of their two state titles. They have also finished as the runner-up three times.

18. Hillsboro (Nashville) - 103
Overall record:
79-44
Hillsboro lays claim to one state title and four Top 25 finishes.



19. Beech (Hendersonville) - 102
Overall record:
82-39
Beech has won two state championships and finished in the Top 25 three times.

20. Baylor (Chattanooga) - 100
Overall record: 71-44
Baylor has finished in the Top 25 six times, as well as recording two runner-up finishes.
