New Palestine were successful in their last outing against Shelbyville, and they didn't afford Shelbyville any payback this time around. New Palestine took the matchup and then some with a 77-7 win on Friday over Shelbyville. Followers of New Palestine probably expected little less of the squad in a season in which they have collected seven blowout victories.
New Palestine's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 74 points in the first half. Meanwhile, Shelbyville couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 74-0 heading into the break. Although New Palestine wound up losing the second-half battle, they still had enough in reserve to win the war.
No one put up better numbers for New Palestine than junior Charlie Spegal, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 222 yards and 6 touchdowns. Senior Zach Neligh was in the mix, too, providing New Palestine with 3 touchdowns. The victory bumped their record up to 7-0. The loss dropped Shelbyville's record to 1-6.
New Palestine will be staying on the road next week, facing off against New Castle. New Palestine will be strutting in after a victory while New Castle will be stumbling in from a defeat. As for Shelbyville, they will face off against Mt. Vernon.
