PRINCETON, Ky. -
Caldwell County (Princeton, Ky.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Jaylen Boyd ran for a touchdown with 7:00 left, bringing the team to victory over
Mayfield (Ky.) 48-41.
The Tigers led 41-3 at halftime, but the Cardinals regained the lead on a touchdown with 6:00 remaining in the third.
Caldwell County grew its lead to 70 points entering the fourth quarter. CC scored three times in the third, including once on a field goal by
Lucas Brown.
The loss came as a shock for Mayfield, which entered the game ranked No. 9 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Kentucky, while the Princeton school was ranked No. 20. MHS came into the game having won four of the past seven games between the two teams.
The Cardinals came in allowing just 17.8 points per game this season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Mayfield took, 48-7.
The loss comes after Mayfield defeated Russellville 42-21 last week.
