Chase Hounshell, who had pledged to the University of Florida in August, has switched to Notre Dame, according to the South Bend Tribune. He is
Notre Dame's 23rd commitment in the class of 2011.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound senior from
Lake Catholic (Mentor, Ohio) was named Ohio's Division II Co-Defensive Player of the Year. The two-way standout lineman had 36 tackles, five sacks, nine tackles for losses and three forced fumbles.
He has excellent athletic ability, clocking 4.82 seconds for 40 yards, bench pressing 335 pounds and posting a 33-inch vertical jump.
Hounshell was ticketed for the offensive line at Florida, but will be given a shot at defensive end for the Fighting Irish.
