5A District 8 recap September 17, 2013
Boca Ciega scaled the state rankings by moving to 281 from 336 this week, the biggest jump in 5A District 8. The Pirates were able to make move up by beating Northeast 17-0.
Dunedin fell to East Lake 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Derrick Cook and Jarquez Johnson gave Boca Ciega a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Cook threw for 49 yards, while Johnson ran for 100 yards. Teammate Sirkendric Bedinnes added to the ground attack by rushing for 45 yards.
Cook and Johnson gave Antez Brinson's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Maurice Turner was the best receiver in the league this week as Tarpon Springs fell to Tampa Catholic. Turner racked up 3 receptions for 48 yards.

Leading 5A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards, the Pirates' Cook and Bedinnes have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Cook has thrown for 559 yards this season, while Bedinnes has 14 catches for 190 yards. The Spongers' Michael Ford leads the league in rushing yards with 532.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Tarpon Springs takes on the Falcons. Ron Hawn's team is currently in first, while Dunedin is in third.
Boca Ciega made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,109 from 6,393. The improvement was the result of 17-0 victory over Michael Jalazo's team last week.
