Jake Browning, Folsom (Calif.)Browning completed 20 of 28 passes for 380 yards and eight touchdowns in a 63-6 win over Nevada Union (Grass Valley, Calif.). The eight touchdowns marked the third time in Browning's career that he threw at least eight touchdowns in a game. That ties Browning with Robert De La Cruz of Cathedral (Los Angeles) for the most times accomplishing that feat in state history, according to the Cal-Hi Sports Record Book. With 181 career touchdown passes, Browning passed Ben Mauk of Kenton (Ohio) for fourth place on the all-time national list. Chris Leak of Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) is next with 185 while Will Grier of Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.) has 195 and Maty Mauk of Kenton has 219.
Austin Kafentzis, Jordan (Sandy, Utah)In his first three seasons at Jordan, Kafentzis threw for over 400 yards just once. He's now done it four times in the past five weeks; unfortunately three of those games have been losses. He had a career-high 494 yards in a 78-76 triple-overtime loss to Brighton on Wednesday. He added 406 yards in a 58-41 loss to Bingham on Friday, completing 30 of 59 passes. With six touchdown passes against Brighton, Kafentzis broke the record for career touchdown passes with 105. For the season, Kafentzis has thrown for 2,941 yards and 30 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 1,509 yards and 22 touchdowns. He accounted for 10 touchdowns in the loss to Brighton. For his career, Kafentzis has 12,158 yards passing and 6,609 yards rushing for a combined total of 18,767. He now ranks second all-time in career total offense behind Maty Mauk of Kenton (Ohio) with 22,681 yards and Ben Mauk of Kenton with 19,628 yards.
Kyler Murray, Allen (Texas)Murray has Allen ranked No. 3 in the
Xcellent 25 Football Rankings after a 44-10 win over Hebron last week. For the season, Murray has thrown for 1,911 yards and 20 touchdowns and he has rushed for 629 yards and 14 scores. For his career, Murray has thrown for 7,584 yards and 83 touchdowns and he has run for 3,273 yards and 58 touchdowns.
Jacques Patrick, Timber Creek (Orlando, Fla.)Edgewater limited Patrick to 130 yards on 23 carries — his lowest yardage total of the season — in a 21-17 loss for Timber Creek. Patrick managed one touchdown and has 17 touchdowns for the season. He has rushed 151 times for 1,323 yards on the year.
Damien Harris, Madison Southern (Berea, Ky.)Harris sat out Madison Southern's 35-0 loss to Pulaski County due to a knee injury he incurred in a 32-26 loss to Southwestern (Somerset, Ky.) the previous week. The shutout loss was the school's first since Harris's freshman season.
Kiante Enis, Winchester (Ind.)Enis continues to lead the nation in rushing yardage after gaining 217 yards on 25 carries in a 49-0 win over Tri (Straughn, Ind.). He has 2,360 yards on the year with 37 total touchdowns, including five last week. Enis needs 208 yards to break into the top 25 all-time single season rushing yardage performances in state history.
Kellen Overstreet, Penney (Hamilton, Mo.)Overstreet gained 201 yards and scored five touchdowns for the sixth time this season in leading Penney to a 59-6 win over North Platte (Dearborn, Mo.) last week. For the season, Overstreet has 2,283 yards rushing on 205 carries with 39 total touchdowns. Overstreet has 137 career touchdowns and needs just five more to break the state record of 141, held by Caleb Schaffitzel of Fair Grove.
Markell Jones, Columbus East (Ind.)Jones rumbled for 258 yards on 22 carries with six more touchdowns in a 62-13 win over Jeffersonville to go over 2,000 yards for the second year in a row. Jones has 2,036 yards on 152 carries with 37 touchdowns. For his career, Jones ranks 19th in state history with 6,299 yards. He also now has 101 career touchdowns.
Sotonye Jamabo, Plano West (Texas)It's been a bit of an up-and-down year for Jamabo who follows up average performances with spectacular efforts the following week. So after gaining just 60 yards in a loss to Plano, Jamabo was due for another big week, this time against Marcus (Flower Mound, Texas). Jamabo didn't disappoint as he rushed for 322 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-42 win. For the season, Jamabo has 1,413 yards rushing on 127 carries with 25 touchdowns.
Josh Rosen, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)St. John Bosco moved into the driver's seat for the SoCal Open Division playoff berth thanks to a 28-25 win over Mater Dei and Rosen was a big reason why. He threw for 201 yards and a touchdown in the win and also ran for a score. For the season, Rosen has completed 91 of 145 passes for 1,461 yards and 15 touchdowns with just one interception.
