Northeast Lauderdale put the finishing touches on their 4th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They steamrollered Newton County 40-3.
The match started off well for Northeast Lauderdale, whose offense put up 33 first-half points. Newton County countered with 3 points, leaving the score at 33-3 going into the half. The Northeast Lauderdale defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the game.
Junior Michael McClinton was the offensive standout of the match for Northeast Lauderdale, as he rushed for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns. McClinton has been a consistent playmaker for Northeast Lauderdale as this was the 7th good game in a row from him. Senior Kam Hulin was in the mix, too, providing Northeast Lauderdale with two touchdowns. The victory bumped their record up to 5-3. Newton County are on a three-game losing streak that has brought their record down to 2-7.
Both teams are staying within the conference for their upcoming matches. Northeast Lauderdale will be staying on the road next week, facing off against Quitman. As for Newton County, they will face off against West Lauderdale.
