Auburn has landed its running back of the future.
Little Rock Christian (Little Rock, Ark.) senior Michael Dyer, the state's all-time leading rusher, announced his committment to Auburn during a school assembly this morning.
Dyer, No. 15 overall in the MaxPreps 2010 Top 100 compiled by Tom Lemming, is the third-ranked running back in the country, behind Marcus Lattimore (Byrnes, Duncan, S.C.) and Lache Seastrunk (Temple, Texas).
He selected the Tigers over Arkansas, Tennessee and a host of other schools that offered a scholarship.
Two weeks ago against Lake Side (Hot Springs, Ark.), the 5-foot-9, 215-pound Dyer broke the Arkansas career state rushing record of 7,122 previously held by former Elaine star Vernon Hicks.
“His best asset probably is his balance," Little Rock Christian coach Justin Roper said after the game. "What makes him so great is that there are guys who are fast and guys who are big and strong, and some are good receivers but Michael can do it all. He’s so hard to tackle because he’s so strong and you can’t knock him off balance.”
Dyer will look to add to his record today in a highly-anticipated showdown against Pulaski Academy, one of this week’s Top 10 Games of the Week.
