Del Rio (Texas) saw its 17-point lead shrink to 10, but hung on to defeat
Carlsbad (N.M.) 17-7 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the first quarter, the Rams led 7-0 at the half.
Del Rio expanded its lead to 10 points entering the fourth quarter. DR scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.
Carlsbad's lone touchdown came on a pass in the third quarter.
The defeat comes as a step back for Carlsbad, who notched a 41-14 victory over Roswell in its previous outing. The victory was a step in the right direction for the Rams, who were coming off a 25-0 defeat at the hands of Tivy in its previous game.
Del Rio (1-1) goes up against Clemens in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Carlsbad (1-1) locks horns with Mayfield also in a non-conference game.
