Jordan Brand Classic: Barnes leads West, Lamb and Selby decide

NEW YORK, N.Y. – MaxPreps.com Player of the Year Harrison Barnes (Ames, Iowa) was named Most Valuable Player for the West in a 129-125 win over the East in the third annual Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

Barnes, a 6-7 senior wing headed to North Carolina, had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the winners.

Duke-bound guard Kyrie Irving (St. Patrick, Elizabeth, N.J.) was named East MVP after scoring 22 points and dishing seven assists.

The highlight of the night may have been a pair of All-Americans making their college choice public in front of the Garden crowd and a national television audience.

Doron Lamb of Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) chose Kentucky over Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas and West Virginia. Lamb joins fellow Jordan Brand Classic participant Brandon Knight, Enes Kanter and Stacey Poole Jr. in John Calipari's latest recruiting haul.

Lamb was a two-year starter at Oak Hill after originally beginning his high school career at Bishop Loughlin (Brooklyn, N.Y.). He averaged 22 points, five rebounds and four assists per game as a senior.

Josh Selby of Lake Clifton (Baltimore, Md.) opted for Kansas over Arizona, Connecticut, Kentucky and Tennessee. Selby, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 32 points and seven assists in his senior season and will head to Lawrence next fall along with Arizona scorer Royce Woolridge.

- C.J. Leslie: The 6-8 forward will visit Florida on Sunday and a decision between the Gators, Kentucky and North Carolina State if expected to come sometime after.

- Terrence Jones: Expected to pick between Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oregon, UCLA and Washington on April 23 or 30. Kansas could also be making a late push.

- Cory Joseph: Joseph is looking to make a decision between Connecticut, Minnesota, Texas, Nevada-Las Vegas and Villanova by the end of the month.

- Brandon Knight said he probably would have gone to Connecticut or Florida when asked where he would have ended up if not Kentucky.

“UConn has had so many players I liked from being little and Florida has a bunch of talent coming back to make a potential run,” he said.

- Jared Sullinger committed to Ohio State as a freshman and when asked who he would have liked to play for if not the home-state Buckeyes, he had three in mind.

“Coach Huggins, that’s the guy. The toughness he has teams play with. I love him,” Sullinger said. “Also Coach Knight, Bob Knight. He’s an extraordinary coach and personality. And Coach K would be the other. His Xs and Os are tremendous.”
