Cord Sandberg threw three touchdowns and ran for two more as
Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) bested
Venice (Fla.) 56-27 on Saturday.
The Hurricanes were up 28-13 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Brodrick Yancy in the first quarter.
Both teams scored 14 points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 15 entering the fourth.
A 14-point fourth quarter was enough to cement the win for Manatee, as it pushed the final margin of victory to 29.
The Indians came in surrendering 14.9 points per game this season. Venice struggled against MHS's offense, which entered the game scoring 47.3 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Bradenton school came away with a 34-21 victory.
The loss comes after Venice defeated North Port 41-14 last week. The loss snapped VHS's 3-game winning streak.
Venice (6-2) will play a non-conference game against Chaminade-Madonna next week, while Manatee (7-0) will take on Palmetto also in a non-conference game.
