At least his
Triple A Academy (Dallas) football team is heading to face the high school Sanders played at,
North Fort Myers (Fla.), in a game scheduled for Aug. 18, according the
Naples Daily News.
The game, part of the kickoff classic at Moody Field, was finalized last week.
The Triple A Academy players will spend the week in Fort Myers, according to the report. Sanders and North coach Earnest Graham have tried to schedule the game for the better part of two years, but finally got the deal done.
"I think this is great for the community," Graham told the newspaper. "It will bring us all together. And Deion means so much to this community. It will be great to have him and his team here."
North Fort Myers, 5-5 last season, features the nation's No. 14 running back, according to 247Sports: Florida State commit
Zaquandre White. Triple A Academy, a charter school that plays in Texas' University Interscholastic League, went 4-7 last season.
Sanders was all-state in football, basketball and baseball at North Fort Myers and was selected to the Florida High School Athletic Association All-Century Team in football in 1985, one of 33 players so honored. After a Hall of Fame football career — and 12-year Major League Baseball stint — Sanders co-founded Prime Prep Academy in Dallas in 2012. It folded in January of 2015 and three months later, Sanders was named CEO of FOCUS Academies and head football coach at Triple A.
