There are those select few who you think would be immune to the old axiom that coaches are hired simply to be fired.
Mullen (Denver, Colo.) football coach Dave Logan certainly would fit that category given his overwhelming success at the high school level in Colorado. After all, he has won six titles between three schools in less than 20 years.

Logan now is the former coach of Mullen, though, after he and his staff were dismissed by the school Wednesday. He made the announcement to his players in an afternoon meeting.
Although no official reason was given, a statement released by Mullen officials sheds some light on their decision. They apparently want a coach who is a full-time member of the faculty. Logan is a sports broadcaster in the Denver area, which includes being the radio voice for the Denver Broncos.
"The national search for the next head football coach at Mullen will commence immediately," Mullen president Ryan Clement said in a press release. "Candidates for the position must possess the potential to become a full time member of the faculty and be able to engage in every aspect of school life."
Logan has posted a career mark of 201-43 in 19 seasons between Arvada West, Chatfield and Mullen. He was at Mullen for nine years and guided the Mustangs to four Class 5A titles, including three in a row from 2008-10.
Logan, who reportedly will address his dismissal further during his radio show on KOA 850-AM on Thursday, was respectful about the decision in his comments to
The Denver Post.
"The reality is, I'm not a Lasallian educator and I cannot be a presence in the school as much as someone who's a full-time teacher," Logan told the Post. "You have a new president and principal, and they get to decide the direction of the school. I'm sure both have Mullen and what's best for the entire community at heart. I respect that."
The Mullen position figures to be highly coveted. The program enjoys strong support from school administration and boosters, and the Mustangs return a strong nucleus of players. In addition, the team will play at national powerhouse De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) next season.
"That school will be successful and successful in football," Logan told the Post, while also saying he would like to continue coaching. "And it's certainly not because of one man. I wish them all the best."
