SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -
Sharpsville (Pa.) snapped the four-game winning streak of
West Middlesex (Pa.), with a 20-12 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Eric Lucich, the Big Reds went into halftime with a 12-6 lead. The Blue Devils scored the winning points with a touchdown that came in the third quarter.
The result came as a big surprise as West Middlesex came in ranked No. 141 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Pennsylvania, while Sharpsville was ranked No. 234.
SHS went into the matchup giving up only 7.6 points per game. West Middlesex's 12 points were well below its season average of 24.8 per game.
The Blue Devils got revenge for last year's 21-14 loss to the Big Reds with the victory.
The loss comes after West Middlesex defeated Mercer 17-14 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for Sharpsville, which lost to Farrell last week, 7-6.
Sharpsville (4-2) goes up against Wilmington Area in a non-conference game matchup next week, while West Middlesex (4-2) locks horns with Sharon also in a non-conference game.
