The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Saturday Pittsburg takes on San Ramon Valley in the first playoff game of the year. Pittsburg is coming into the game hot, having won seven in a row.
The margin was closer than expected for Pittsburg two weeks ago, but the end result was the same. It came out on top in a nail-biter against Antioch two weeks ago, sneaking past 14 - 12. Pittsburg had two big standouts, as junior Justin Boyd threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore Darrion Bartley ran for 111 yards and snatched up one reception. Boyd went long for a 74-yard TD catch in the second quarter, one of the game's most exciting plays.
As for San Ramon Valley, last game was the first rocky defensive outing for it this year. There's no need to mince words: it lost to De La Salle two weeks ago, and it lost bad. The score wound up at 49 - 14. All the same, giving junior Jason Javier more carries than the previous game paid off since he ran for 70 yards and punched in one touchdown.
San Ramon Valley's defeat dropped it to 9-1 while Pittsburg's win brought it to 7-1. We'll find out on Saturday if Pittsburg can snag another victory or if San Ramon Valley will turn things around for itself.
