Special teams carried
Bethel (Tipp City, Ohio) to a 38-18 victory over
Ansonia (Ohio) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Bees's special teams scored on two kick returns.
After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, Bethel led 7-6 at the half.
BHS expanded its lead to 12 points entering the fourth quarter. The Tipp City school scored three times in the third, including once on a kick return.
Jordan Newman played well for the Tigers. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to nine on the year.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Bees' close 24-21 loss to Ansonia last season.
The loss comes after Ansonia defeated Mississinawa Valley 14-6 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for Bethel, which was coming off a 9-7 defeat at the hands of National Trail in its previous game.
Bethel (3-5) goes up against Arcanum in a Cross County game matchup next week, while Ansonia (1-7) locks horns with Covington also in a Cross County game.
