Rising senior point guard Aaron Bright of Bellevue (Wash.) High School has verbally committed to play basketball for head coach Johnny Dawkins at Stanford University, Bright’s mother Cindy confirmed Friday.
Bright, a strong candidate for MaxPreps.com's Class of 2010 Top 100 set to be released next month, averaged 16.5 points and five assists per game for the Washington 3A semifinalist Wolverines (27-2) last winter.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound floor general earned MVP honors at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic in December, 2008, including a 26-point performance in the semifinals against California perennial power Bishop O’Dowd.
Against nationally-ranked Franklin in a memorable district playoff game in March, Bright poured in a season-high 32 points and drilled five 3-pointers against the eventual 3A champions.
Bright has helped Bellevue compile a 46-9 record over the past two seasons. Outside of Kentwood big man Josh Smith, Bright may be Washington’s top 2010 prospect.
According to Cindy Bright, her son has already been admitted to the prestigious academic institution, clearing the way for his pledge to Dawkins’ program.
Stanford went 20-14 record last season with Mitch Johnson – another Washington product – starting at the point guard position. Johnson attended Seattle’s O’Dea High School.
