3A Region I District 5 recap September 17, 2013
Graham was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Wylie. The Steers came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
Iowa Park moved up to 524 from 661 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region I District 5. The Hawks were able to make move up by topping Bridgeport 21-14.
Bryce Reeves was the best receiver in the league this week as Graham defeated the Bulldogs. Reeves racked up 7 receptions for 80 yards. Hunter Baca helped Graham's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 47 yards.
Orlando Haymon was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 155 yards on 16 carries as Vernon bested Wylie. Teammate Danny Valverde added to the ground attack by rushing for 140 yards.
Ben Davis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Steers topped Hugh Sandifer's team. He completed 18 passes for 241 yards and also ran for 28 yards.
Terrance Cooper put up the best numbers through the air as Hirschi topped Holliday. He finished with a total of 7 completions for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cooper's favorite target this week was Lakarl Williams, who caught 4 passes for 68 yards.
Leading 3A Region I District 5 in both passing and receiving yards, Graham's Davis and Reeves have proven to be a lethal combination. Davis has thrown for 916 yards this season, while Reeves has 21 catches for 421 yards. The Lions' Haymon leads the league in rushing yards with 583.
The Huskies took down the Eagles 70-9 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cooper ran for 70 yards during the win.
