Video: Chino Hills vs. Bishop Montgomery
Bishop Montgomery (Torrance, Calif.)
took national No. 1 Chino Hills
to the wire in late January, fueling plenty of anticipation for a competitive rematch Saturday in the state regional final at The Pyramid in Long Beach.
Instead, the unbeaten Huskies (34-0) outclassed yet another high-powered Southern California opponent to earn a trip to next weekend’s CIF Open Division final in Sacramento.
Chino Hills blew open an 11-point halftime lead over Bishop Montgomery early in the third quarter and rolled to an 84-62 win. The Huskies have won all seven postseason games by 20 points or more and topped the 100-point mark in each of the first five.
Next up is NorCal champ De La Salle (Concord)
, who improved to 31-2 with a 41-40 win over Modesto Christian
on Saturday. Both the Spartans and Chino Hills participated in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic in December.
Junior LiAngelo Ball
led Chino Hills with 27 points against Bishop Montgomery. Senior brother Lonzo
registered a ho-hum – by his standards – 13-point, 15-rebound, 10-assist triple-double while the third Ball brother LaMelo
The Huskies led 28-17 at the half, then rattled off a 14-0 run to start the third quarter that created a comfortable 25-point cushion.
The lead ballooned to as many as 34 before Chino Hills went to the bench late in the contest.
