Logan, Utah was overflowing with anticipation. Like any small town word had spread about the remarkable national award that the Logan High School football team was going to receive from the Army National Guard and MaxPreps. The Grizzlies gym was packed not just with students but parents and community leaders. The eager crowd knew that this ceremony was something special by the number of cameras at half court. All cameras were pointing at Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Logan was selected as a recipient of 7th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard because of their undefeated season, 14-0 record, state championship and No. 92 national ranking from among 16,000 teams nationwide.
Head Coach Mike Favero explained, "There's a long list of people who had a hand or part in creating such a special, unique program. I think it validates that we're in the right direction and it's a compliment to all those people who have been a part of it, and most importantly our players, our school and then the families of those players that made it happen."
The ceremony took place at a Prep Rally on Friday, January 13th. MaxPreps representative Jeremy Brunner began the ceremony, "I saw 31 football games in the State of Utah and four of them were Logan High. He continued, "I've got to say, this was my favorite team to watch by far." He congratulated the Logan football team. Jeremy introduced Sergeant First Class Paul Klimack of the Utah Army National Guard.
SFC Klimack said, "As a Army National Guard recruiter, I can't help but draw some parallels to the military and football, and life in general. Whatever you want to do in life... you're going to get there if you have discipline, if you have selfless service. See that goal, realize it... and you'll get there." SFC Klimack then presented the trophy to Coach Favero.
"I think any time you get national recognition with a prestigious honor like this, it's a reflection of the level that the program has achieved," Favero said. "We would like to thank the Army National Guard and MaxPreps." He invited up the football team and the crowd was so load that you could feel the ground shaking. The football team held the trophy high in the air.
Congratulations to Logan High School on their undefeated season and a state championship!
