Kentwood (Covington, Wash.) grabbed the lead when they scored a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the fifth quarter and held on to defeat
Kent-Meridian (Kent, Wash.) 28-27 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured three lead swaps.
The Royals pulled ahead on a touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 15-13. The Conquerors scored the winning points with a touchdown that came in the fifth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Kentwood still trailed by eight points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped KHS pull out the victory.
Kent-Meridian missed two extra point attempts in the loss.
The Covington school also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 41-13.
The win brought Kentwood's winning streak to four games.
